Cross Country Meet #2- Woodland Hills

So this week's meet was in Woodland Hills. Can we just say one thing?? HOT HOT HOT! It must have been at least 90 degrees by 9:30am- no joke!

Love this team huddle!

Anyway, this is known as one of the most difficult races. The course is VERY hilly and the heat factor is way up! This meet, put on by the Valley Striders, had about 650 kids running in it. Sabrina's age group had at least 25-30 girls running. The boys in our club ran with a group of 105 boys in their age group!

Sabrina did great. She started off strong and just got stronger and stronger as the race went on. That's the thing with her- she hits about a 1/2 mile and just gains alot of strength. The more distance she runs, the better she runs! About halfway through the race she took the lead and held on to it the whole way. Her time was 9 minutes and 16 seconds (3 seconds slower than last week) and she took first place in her age category. Pretty good considering the difficulty level and weather conditions.

This is Sabrina about 3/4 of the way through the race.

Finishing strong with a sprint to the finish!

She is so funny. When she finished this race we were trying to get her to drink and cool off and so forth. We kept asking her if she was okay. All she would say is..."I have dirt on my face." and "My socks are dirty." and "I'm all sweaty." We were concerned with her health and she was concerned with her hygiene. Silly girl!

We are in total amazement with this girl. She has been blessed with such great talent! And we recognize it as just that, a talent. We hope that we can help her develop it and encourage her to recognize it as a blessing!

Way to run Sabrina! We are proud of you, and we love you! Keep up the good work and training. The most important thing is that you love the sport.
