S-P-E-L-L-I-N-G B-E-E

(total brag post ahead...)

Today was the 3rd grade Spelling Bee at Tincher School. Sabrina was one of 5 students in her class and 30 total 3rd graders chosen to participate. She was so excited to be chosen and came bounding out of class last Friday to tell me!

Last night we talked a little bit about what was going to happen at the spelling bee. I got the dictionary out and found a few words and tested her....she did not get one right. I got a bit nervous for her. She yanked the dictionary out of my hands and went to her bedroom and put it under her pillow.

"There," she said, "now I'll be okay."
Uhhh, okay...whatever?!
Fast forward to this afternoon. She did awesome. Each time she went up to the microphone my heart was pumping like crazy. However, she never flinched. She repeated the word, spelled it, and then said the word again- with all the confidence in the world.
Finally, after about 5 rounds, it got down to Sabrina and 2 other girls. One of girls got out and then it was Sabrina and Rhiannon (who was in her class last year and won the 2nd grade spelling bee). Sabrina got the word 'scientific' and forgot to put the "e" in...ohhh, so close!
(why is this picture so blurry? I was so nervous for her I was shaking, I think.)
I was so proud of her...total proud Mom moment-complete with tears and everything. Her teacher went right over to her and gave her the biggest hug. You could tell that her teacher was very proud of her. (I love her teacher!) And then Sabrina ran all the way to the back of the auditorium to me and gave me a big hug! That was the best moment for me!! Some of her girlfriends from her class came running up to her and gave her a hug and said how excited they were for her! Sabrina was BEAMING!

For coming in second place Sabrina won a $10 gift card to Borders bookstore. She told me on the way home from school that she really wanted that gift card! I told her that her trick with the dictionary must have worked.

She said, "Yeah, but Mom I also prayed to Heavenly Father for help. And it worked...I did good!" Yes, Sabrina, prayers are answered. And, yes, once again, the tears started streaming down my face.

What a wonderful girl I have been blessed with! She's amazing!

(end of my bragging rights-for today)

That Sabrina. She sure is one of a kind! Be proud mom. Keep the tears coming. Please...I cry when I see kids watching the parade at Disneyland. Don't even get me started when my child is in a spelling bee...and then knows to pray on top of that! Congrats Sabrina!
